Privacy Policy

We built Letter Drop to be a word game, not a data business. We collect only what we need to make the game better, and we never sell your information.

Who we are

Letter Drop is developed and published by Unserious Games, an independent iOS game studio based in the United Kingdom. You can reach us at hello@unserious.games.

What we collect

We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to collect anonymous usage analytics. This helps us understand how the game is played so we can improve it. Specifically, we track:

When the app is opened
When a Daily or Infinite Mode game is started or completed
When a puzzle is abandoned
When Extra Time is used
When a score is shared
When the How to Play screen is viewed

All analytics events are tied to a randomly generated anonymous ID. We do not collect your name, email address, device ID, or IP address. We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA).

What we do not collect

No name, email, or contact information
No precise location — only approximate city/country derived from IP at ingestion (see below)
No device identifiers or advertising IDs
No IP addresses (stripped before storage)
No session recordings or screen captures
No data from third-party sources

Approximate location

When your device sends an analytics event, PostHog's EU servers automatically derive an approximate location (city, country, and continent) from your IP address at the point of ingestion. The raw IP address is immediately discarded and never stored. The derived location (e.g. "United Kingdom", "Europe") is retained as part of the anonymous analytics record to help us understand where our players are based. This data is never linked to you personally and cannot be used to identify you.

Data stored on your device

Your game preferences and progress — including sound settings, best score, current streak, words found, and Infinite Mode progress — are stored locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults. This data is never transmitted to us or any third party.

Third-party services

The app uses the Free Dictionary API (dictionaryapi.dev) to fetch word definitions shown on the results screen after each game. This request contains only the word being looked up — no personal data is transmitted.

Children's privacy

Letter Drop does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app contains no advertising and no in-app purchases.

Your rights

Because we collect no personal data linked to you, there is nothing to access, correct, or delete. If you have any privacy concerns, please contact us at hello@unserious.games and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
